Ffestiniog Railway

Festiniog Revelations

Including the Talyllyn Railway in 1951

A return trip to Abergynolwyn is made after Mr. Rolt is seen involved in hand shunting the booking office. He departs in his Alvis before we witness the details of the derailment of No. 3 on its first run on the Talyllyn Railway.

Next, "The Atomic Run to Tan-y-Bwlch" gives us a view of the line, in four minutes, in about 1960. Various tasks on the route are witnessed, along with the very assorted rolling stock.

Unseen hitherto are shots of bogie wagons being loaded for the Festiniog Railway at Smiths Potato Crisp Farm in Lincolnshire and tipper wagons being prepared for the Deviation at a gravel pit in West Sussex.

There are numerous unexpected views, culminating in shots at Blaenau Ffestiniog on reopening day in 1982. The Mitchell family make many links in the story.

Featuring the Mitchell family in the pioneering days.
