Wooden sailing cargo ships were still leaving Sussex shipyards in the first two decades of the 20th century, some featuring in the early part of this study. More generally, vessels constructed from 1856 to 2001 are herein illustrated and described, together with the associated rise and fall of many and diverse local Sussex industries dependant on seaborne trade.
