Croydon's Tramways
including Crystal Palace, Mitcham and Sutton
by John B Gent & John H Meredith
Croydon's tramways had the characteristics of those of a provincial town. A private company operated horse tramways from 1879, and from 1901 the extended electric tramways were operated partly by the Corporation, and partly by a private company. Later joint operation of the principal route by the Corporation and London County Council, and absorption by the LPTB from 1933 until final closure in 1951 are recorded in this volume. It illustrates the routes and varied stock with much hitherto unpublished material.
