Scottish Main Lines

Inverkeithing - Kirkcaldy - Thornton Junction

including the Auchtertool, Colliery, Quarry, Military and Harbour branches

by Dennis Lovett & Bill Roberton

Until the opening of the Forth Bridge in 1890, passengers from Edinburgh to Fife had to endure crossing the Forth by ferry to Burntisland. With the bridge came a new line from Inverkeithing to Burntisland to join up with the existing line. The Auchtertool line speeded up the transport of coal from the pits to the docks. All are explored herein alongwith a variety of images to enjoy.
