Narrow Gauge

Vivarais Narrow Gauge

featuring Mallets in the Massif

by John Organ

South of Lyon, there was once a 126 mile long metre gauge system set in the spectacular mountain scenery of the Massif Central. Its enormous locomotives, amazing civil engineering and fascinating history are fully described and illustrated, as is the revival of two sections. The Vivarais is twinned with the Ffestiniog Railway and is regarded as one of the premier narrow gauge preserved lines in mainland Europe.
