Eritrean Narrow Gauge
An Amazing Reinstatement
by Don Mitchell
Considering the terrain with its attendant civil engineering problems, it seems an incredible feat that the Eritrean Railway should exist at all. It is just as unbelievable that the section of this marvellous railway from Massawa to Asmara, rising from sea level to nearly 8,000 feet in just over 73 miles, should have been resuscitated.
