Midland Main Lines
Loughborough to Nottingham
by David Pearce
The Loughborough to Nottingham section of the Great Central Railway’s London Extension has had mixed fortunes over the years.
Industry has ensured that at least part of the line survives after the wholesale closures of the 60s and 70s. Gypsum, lime, coal, not to mention, the MOD have all contributed, whilst passengers are returning in contrasting developments, traditional to the south and futuristic to the north - a remarkable tribute to the final major railway enterprise of the 19th Century.
