London Suburban Railways

Outer Circle

4 volumns as a limited edition sleeved gift set

by Vic Mitchell & Keith Smith

This unique product has been created to commemorate two remarkable events.

London’s Outer Circle was created again on 9th December 2012, although with some new connections.

The 150th anniversary of London’s first underground railway was weeks later, on 9th January 2013.

This was commemorated by the steaming of Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T no. 1 on the first part of the Inner Circle. It hauled a coach of the era, which had been restored by the Ffestiniog Railway, at its Boston Lodge Works. A replica of the teak style wood used by the Met forms the back of this special sleeve. The restored coach was towed to Harbour station where it is seen prior to loading onto road transport, for use in London again.

Bradshaw’s map from 1852 appears here as the background. It is part of his atlas and also a folded map for Great Britain, both of which are available to order from Middleton Press.
