Railways to Victory
British recollections. Normandy to Germany 1944-46
by Vic Mitchell
The story starts with preparations in the UK for the invasion and goes on to describe the Normandy landings. It also chronicles many aspects of the restoration of the railways in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The imaginative plans to restore the railway network to supply the Forces liberating Europe from Nazi tyranny have been little chronicled. This brief insight into some of the heroic and amazing engineering achievements is based largely on the experiences of members of no. 181 Railway Operating Company.
