Country Railway Routes
Llandeilo to Swansea
including the Llanelli and Carmarthen
by John Organ
The southern section of the Central Wales Line was a route of many contrasts. From the rural charm of Mid Wales, the line passed through the western fringes of the South Wales coal mining area which also boasted other spheres of industrial activity. Finally, by complete contrast, the last part of the route followed the coast where sand blown onto the track was a constant problem. The photographs in this album show a diverse array of motive power with former LMS locomotives hauling the through traffic, whilst the local traffic was the preserve of small GWR engines.
