Country Railway Routes
Alnmouth to Alnwick, Coldstream and Berwick
by Roger Darsley and Dennis Lovett
Alnwick joined the railway network early on. The Alnwick and Coldstream line followed, serving a remote and rural area. It lost its passenger services in the 1930s and goods traffic remained on part of the route until the 1960s. The Alnwick branch also closed and over 50 years later is now being rebuilt, in part, as a heritage railway. All these aspects are extensively illustrated herein.
Reviews:
'A superb read as is usual with this series and the collection of photographs show in detail the stations, yards and sheds along the route, along with engines and stock from all eras... There are also very useful maps and diagrams to explain the routes.'
(West Highland News Plus, Friends of the West Highland Lines, Winter/Spring 2022)
'This volume offers readers an insight into railway operations in north Northumberland, stretching across the Scottish border to Coldstream... This book maintains the very high standard of the series.' (GP)
(The Railway Magazine, February 2022)
'The book covers the Aln Valley railway and the narrow gauge Heatherslaw Light Railway, and is essential viewing for those interested in rural railways.'
(The Railway Observer, Vol.91 No.1114, December 2021)
